Based on the University enlightening role, a symposium entitled "the Egyptian Economy: Current Challenges and Future Prospects” was held today under the auspices of prof. Al Sayed Al-Sharkawi, the University President. A speech was given by prof. Ashraf Al-Arabi, the former minister of planning and administrative reform addressed to the university Vice-Presidents, the faculty deans and university students at the University conference hall.
The event opened with the Egyptian national anthem, followed by Al-Sharkawi's word welcoming prof. .Al-Arabi and other attendees, expressing his pleasure for hosting such a great event that can enlighten students’ minds and raise their awareness of the different challenges that face Egypt at all levels.
During the meeting, Al-Arabi pointed out the challenges that face Egypt at the economic level and the evolution of the concept of development with reference to the sustainable development adopted by the world including Egypt. He focused on the ability to transform this concept into national goals that meet the expectations of the Egyptian people. Al-Arabi assured the importance of doubling the efforts and strengthening the role of the private sector in cooperation with the public one to attract the investors and hence to keep the rate of the economic growth and provide youth with job opportunities.
Al-Arabi also emphasized that without the significant increase in development rates and the packages of the economic reforms adopted by the Egyptian State, and supported by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Egypt would not be able to handle the current economic challenges as well as the future prosperous plans and all the positive consequences of this reform on the different sectors of education and health. He also emphasized the need to embrace the idea of sustainability and never to stop at a specific stage, but to keep on the economic reform at the various sectors. He assured that the reform steps taken by the Egyptian State and its institutions were the most difficult though peacefully and successfully performed. Concerning the future, these reforms will be performed in a better without affecting the common citizens.
The meeting was concluded by an open debate with the attendees to answer their queries. Finally, Al-sharkawy hailed Al- Arabi for his efforts offering him the University memorial medal.
